The Michigan Theatre Youth Performance Program is a program designed to give students a more than cursory introduction to live performance in a world class historic theater.  Students will be instructed by certified educators and professionals in their given area of expertise.  The classes are introductory in nature, but students will be allowed supervised “hands on” work in The Michigan Theatre of Jackson.

 All classes are for youth ages 12-18 years old and are 90 minutes long.

All students have the option of performing or using their newly learned skills in The Michigan Theatre Youth Performance on October 9th at 3:00 PM.

COMPONENT ONE

DRAMA:

(Six weeks) This class is designed to introduce students to acting on stage, setting of scenes, lighting, and sound. Students also will be introduced to stage hand duties and care of the theater.

Lead instructor:  Sandy Dicesare:  Sandy brings over 40 years of experience as a performer, production/stage manager, director, and an educator at the college, high school, and elementary levels.

Cost:  $25 per student (limit 30 students)

Dates: September 3, 10, 17, 24,

          October 1, 8

Time: 10:00 AM until 11:30 AM

Performance: October 9th at 3:00 PM

COMPONENT TWO

JAZZ BAND & PERFORMANCE:

(Five weeks) This class is designed to introduce students to elements important to performing in a jazz band or as a soloist.  Stage presence, basic sound engineering, lighting techniques, and show preparation.  Elements of performance will be addressed.

Cost:  $25 per student (limit 30 participants)

Dates: September 10, 17, 24

          October 1, 8

Time: 11:45 AM until 1:15 PM

Performance: October 9th at 3:00 PM

COMPONENT THREE

COMEDY & STORY TELLING:

(Three weeks) This course will cover the basics of comedy on stage including stage presence, audience involvement, and language. The elements of great story-telling will be addressed.

Lead instructor:  Scott Clow.

Cost:  $25 per student (limit 20 participants)

Dates: September 24

          October 1, 8

Time: 1:30 PM until 3:00 PM

Performance: October 9th at 3:00 PM
